BLS Provider (Previously known as Health Care Provider Certification)

The Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider is a course designed to teach a variety of healthcare professionals how to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide good quality CPR, how to use an AED and how to relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

Who Is Eligible To Take This Course?

This course is for healthcare professionals who must know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a range of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

What Will You Learn?

  • Key changes in basic life support, reflecting the new science from the 2010 Guidelines for CPR and ECC
  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  • The Chain of Survival (TM)
  • One-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Two-rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Differences between adult, child and infant rescue techniques
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with an advanced airway

Students must pass a written exam and skills test in order to qualify for a BLS Provider course completion certificate


Heartsaver  (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED)

The Heartsaver Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) course contains up-to-date content and science from the 2020 Guidelines for CPR and ECC. The purpose is to teach lay rescuers the lifesaving skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and relief of choking in adults, children and infants, as well as how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) with both adults and children. (Training in infant and child CPR and choking relief are optional.)

To receive a Heartsaver CPR & AED course completion certificate, students must pass a skills test


Standard First Aid 

 In the Standard First Aid  course you will learn the essential skills of patient care to protect and support the life of a suddenly ill or injured person until emergency medical services arrive. Instruction will cover first aid skills such as those that help in the control of bleeding, shock management, stabilizing fractures and dislocations, assisting those having a heart attack or stroke.

 *Annual CPR Renewal is recommended as the CPR certification is registered with HSF for 1 year
